Only 300 metres walk from the thermal spa via quaint little back streets, both rental apartments are luminous, practical and tastefully decorated, whether you’re staying as a couple or a family.
As “curistes” in Salies ourselves, we’ve paid special attention to creating a relaxing atmosphere in both of our rental apartments.
The two furnished apartments are on the 1st floor of a 17th century building.

IF YOU’RE TRAVELLING …
… by car
Parking in Salies is free and you can always find spot nearby. The parking spaces just below the apartment are officially limited to 30 minute stays.
… without a car
A shopping trolley is available for your use and all the essentials are close by, including grocery, bakery, butcher’s shop, delicatessen, restaurants, wine merchant, café, newsagent, hairdresser, clothes shop. There’s a supermarket just as you come into Salies. Thursday is market day, great for sampling local products. The nearest train station is Puyoô, and we can arrange for someone to pick you up on arrival.

The boar, emblem of Salies de Béarn
Long, long ago, a wild boar was injured in the hunt but managed to escape. The huntsmen continued their search until they found him at last – lying in the marsh, covered with salt. His last words – because boars could talk in those days – were in Béarnais : “Si you nou eri mourt, arres n’y bibéré” – If I hadn’t died here, no one would live here.” Prophetic words from a wild boar, since that was how the salt spring came to be found, how Salies de Béarn was built and came to prosper in the future.

The Corporation of the Part-Prenants, custodians of the salt fountain since 1587
Unique in France, this organisation was founded in the 16th century. Its members, who call themselves “the Neighbours”, are all present day descendants of the founders. They “own” the springs, the salt factory and the buildings of Salies de Béarn.
In 1587, the townsfolk laid down the rules for sharing and using the water, known as the “Compte de sauce” – or sauce tally. Every year, the owners receive around 50 €.
CULTURE AND SPORTS IN SALIES
When it comes to leisure and sports activities, Salies is very active. There’s always something to see or do: casino, swimming pool, 9-hole golf course, mini-golf, tennis, hiking paths, riding, kayak, a visit to the Pain de Sucre, children’s activities, paddling in the “gaves”, the festival of old crafts, concerts, cinema, antique fairs, painting in Salies…
VISITING THE BÉARN AND THE PAYS-BASQUE
Salies is a gem for its well-preserved and picturesque heritage and it’s surrounded by the magnificent scenery of the Béarn and the French Basque country. Navarrenx, Sauveterre, Bellocq, Pau, Orthez, Saint Jean Pied de Port, Oloron Sainte Marie. Bayonne and Biarritz are only around 1 hour away, along with the ski resorts of Gourette, Artouste and La Pierre St Martin.
